The Obituary
Shaundrea Nichole Smalls, 17, of Charleston, SC, entered eternal rest on April 4th, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.
Shaundrea was the daughter of Sidney and Virginia Smalls, born of La’Shaun Smalls and Natira Kinsey, and raised in Charleston, SC. She began her education at the Charleston Christian School through 8th grade until she auditioned and was accepted into the Charleston School of The Arts vocal program. Gabi, as we affectionately loved to call her, was a dedicated member of the SOA vocal program, as she was a lover of musical arts. Her passion was playing piano, dabbling in playing guitar, and singing. Even at dinner, she would either be humming or singing a song. She was also excited that she was able to be a part of the yearbook, as her other passions were photography and fashion. She was quickly becoming a worthy practitioner of photo editing.
Gabi was able to participate in three beauty pageants where she won numerous awards, to include, placing in the top 3 of the talent portion of the competitions for her singing ability and in the top 6 of the beauty portion of the competitions.
While in school, she worked in a pizzeria where she loved to make “freestyle” pizzas, and then she worked in a grocery store where she enjoyed talking to many customers as she checked them out as a cashier. Her nickname, Gabi, was able to be realized, as she was able to have continuous conversations with random people. She was creative in that she would always find a way to “one up” any set of normal standards.
Shaundrea loved spending time with family and friends. She was baptized and became a member of New Ashley Baptist Church in Summerville, SC, where she served in various roles on the youth choir, usher board, serving staff, and praise dance. Shaundrea was a loving young woman who implemented joy and laughter with everyone she met.
Shaundrea’s memories will forever be cherished by her siblings Tiarah Ellise, Racina Allisha, Chandaly Marie, Iya Zyonn, Raziel Javier, Brisco Kiadaire, Shonnell Quentin Cordero and Peyton and Syaire Smalls; She is survived by her aunts; Susan Cook, Dottie Lincoln, Shirley Cordes, Alleen Raimey; uncles Ernest Cook, Leon Cook, and Sidney Smalls III. A host of other family and friends will miss Shaundrea dearly.
