Maretha Bell Martin, affectionately known as “Big Mama”, was born on January 25, 1926, to the late James Jackson and Maude Johnson. She entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2020.  She was born and educated in the public schools in Kilgore, Texas. Maretha was a self-employed beautician for many years in Texas.  She was the proud and grateful mother of seven children. Vernoy Bell of Summerville, SC; Lorenza Bell, Sr. (Ann Bell) of Summerville; Fay Bell of Summerville, SC; Aloma Cooper (Chris Cooper) of Atlanta, GA;  Addie Lee Darden of Atlanta, GA; Paul Bell (Stephanie Bell) of Atlanta, GA, and Herbert Bell of Summerville, SC.Maretha was a faithful believer in Christ. She was a member of Bethlehem Deliverance Worship Ministries. She was under the pastoral care of Pastor Anna Cantey.Maretha leaves to mourn one sister, Lillian C. Prothro, whom she cared for daily. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lavonne W. Brown. She is survived by 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
