SUMMERVILLE, SC - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mrs. Dorothy Maria Smith-Kitt, 61 of Summerville, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at a local hospital. Mrs. Kitt is the wife of Mr. Ezekiel T. Kitt, Jr.

A faithful woman of God, Dorothy Maria Smith-Kitt on Tuesday night gained her wings and answered God's call to come home and take her rest. It was very hard for us, but a blessing for you.

Dorothy Maria Smith-Kitt, affectionately known as "Dot", was born September13, 1958 in Syracuse, New York to the late Myrtle Ferrell Smith and Leroy Smith.

Dorothy joined New Hope African Methodist Church after she moved to Ridgeville, South Carolina . She was a member of Class #2. Dorothy attended until her illness would not allow her to, but she loved God and her church.

Dorothy graduated from Thomas J. Corcran High School in June 1976 in Syracuse, New York. After graduation, she attended Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo, New York, where she received her Book Keeping certificate. In the summer of 1979, she moved to Ridgeville, South Carolina to live with her grandmother, Cecile Ferrell. In the Fall of 1980 she entered Trident Technical College to get an associate degree in Business. In 1984 Dorothy went back to Syracuse to stay with her mother while she had surgery and stayed after her death in December of 1984 Dot was very ambitious and decided to attend Farrah School of Cosmetology to earn her degree in Cosmetology 1985. Dorothy was employed at Captain D's upon it's opening in Summerville as an Assistant Manager. She worked at Wee Wonderland Day Care Center until she went on maternity leave.

Dorothy married Ezekiel Tryone Kitt in 1986 and to this union they had two daughters.

In December of 1996 Dorothy and her children went to Syracuse, New York for Christmas vacation. Once their she was immediately rushed to the hospital were the doctors discovered she had a brain tumor that was malignant. She had lots of health challenges but remain cancer free.

Dorothy leave to cherish her memories two children, Myrtesha Nicole Kitt and Briana Noelle Kitt. Three grandchildren: Grandson, Tristan Jaquan Kitt, granddaughters, Kylie Madison Kitt-Morrison and Gabrielle Maria Kitt-Morrison all of Summerville, South Carolina. Two Goddaughters: Dr. Layshia T. (Muffin) Fowler-Harriette of Richmond, Virginia and Yvonne Allen -Hawkins of Summerville, South Carolina. Her father Mr. Leroy Smith of Syracuse, New York. A very dedicated and loving sister, Felicia A. Smith of Summerville, South Carolina . A very special loving and caring aunt Blanche Ferrell Fowler and Uncle Louis Fowler.

To also cherish her memories a father-in-law, Mr. Ezekiel Kitt, Sr.; Mother-in-Law, Reatha Cockrell. Three uncles: James Mike Ferrell (Vernell) ; Vergil DeLee (Gloria); Isaac Hollie (late Rachel); Aunt, Pauline Ferrell (late Rev. Henry) and four Sister-in-Laws, three Brother-in-Laws. A wonderful group of very loving cousins, other relatives, and friends.

To God be the Glory! Love knows no boundaries even those that divide Heaven and Earth. So whenever you feel sad, just remember, our hearts are connected together always and forever.
