Life’s Reflections of Willie Arthur James, Jr.

(AKA “Punkin’)

On June 9, 1961, the Lord blessed the union of the Late Willie Arthur James, Sr. and the Late Jewel Bradley James were so overjoyed to have him with his orangish hue until they called him ‘Punkin’.  The name stuck!  Most of his friends and acquaintances also called him ‘Punkin’.  He always showed himself friendly with an infectious smile.  Having been raised in a Christian home, ‘‘Punkin’ joined the church at an early age and was assigned to Class #22.

He was reared in Ridgeville, South Carolina and educated in the public school system in Dorchester County.  He graduated from Harleyville-Ridgeville High School in Dorchester, South Carolina with Class of 1979.  ‘Punkin’ was among the Senior Superlatives as Most Talkative along Jackie Smalls!  ‘Punkin’ even tried his hand at football and played a couple of years.  He also received certification as a draftsman from the Dorchester County Career School.  He was quite the artist!  In fact, many homes were built with the renderings done by ‘Punkin’.

‘Punkin’ met and married the love of his life (Clarissa Pinckney) on April 9th, 1983 and to this union two fine boys (Dominique and Willie E.) were born.  He worked hard to provide for his family.  He was last employed at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

He was an avid outdoorsman who was a devout game hunter and fisherman who shared his conquests with friends and neighbors.

Those left to cherish his memories are; his devoted wife of 40 years, Clarissa Pinckney James, the other half of his heartbeat, his two sons; Dominique and Willie Elijah; the apples of his eye-his grandchildren; Damien Melton, Aleyaah James, Kahlil James, and Carter James;  his loving sister- Brenda (Rudolph) James Miller, his special nephews; Rudolph T. Miller, Jr. and Brandon T. Miller his Mother-in-law, Gladys E. Pinckney; his sister-in-law Sylvia P. Gibbs, his brother-in-law, Ellis E. Pinckney, Jr. ; his Aunts; Martha James, Vermell James, Willie Lou Bradley and Barbara Allen; Uncle-Lawrence James, and Evon James as well as   an abundance of cousins, family and friends
