SUMMERVILLE, SC - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Martin Zenon Vega, 88 of Summerville, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 17, 2020. Mr. Vega is a former Merchant Marine.
His Life's Story
Martín Zenon Vega born on April 24, 1932 Bayamón, Puerto Rico. In 1957, at the insistence of his sister, Arcardia V. Cosme, he traveled to mainland USA, first to Chicago and then to New York City. Mr. Vega was a Merchant Marine and was stationed at the Naval Weapons station in SC where he decided to make his home. After leaving the Merchant Marines, Mr. Vega worked as a Security officer for the Sheraton and Marriott hotels here in Charleston SC. A man of many talents, Mr. Martin loved to sing and play his guitar. For over twenty years, Mr. Martin could be found at the Ladson Flea Market on the weekends. In his latter years, he suffered a stroke and resided at Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation Center where we could share so many stories. On the morning of July 17, 2020 he departed this life in the hands of two very loving nurses at Oakbrook, and we thank them. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and four brothers. Mr. Vega leaves behind his Sister Arcardia V. Cosme, children Mildred V. Moore(Elmer), Dennis Vega (Cindy), Miriam Garcia (Antonio), and Lisa Rutledge; his grandchildren Tawanna Jamison(Tim), Elaine Christian, Jermaine Geddis (Asha), Emily Vega Griffin (Henry), Matthew Vega (Kristian), Kevin Vega (Gabriel), Briana Vega, Hector Vega, Xenia Vega, Taryn Vega, Marsha Hicks, Zackary Vega, Antonio Garcia, Amalia Garcia; his great-grandchildren Noah Organis, Maddox Vega, Cairo Vega, Cooper Geddis, Bailey LaRaye Geddis, Ivan Christian, Mariah Christian, Kamryn Christian, Isaiah Christian, Dylan Griffin, and Tyson Griffin ; and a host of loving nieces and nephews in New York.
