Summerville, SC. - The Management and Staff of The Serenity Mortuary, LLC, alongside the Hungerford Family announce the passing of Mr. Kyle Sasha Hungerford, 57 of Summerville, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Hungerford is the beloved husband of Mrs. Amy E. Hungerford.
Kyle Sasha Hungerford, 57, of Summerville, SC, passed away on January 3, 2024, after an extensive battle with cancer. He was born on September 10, 1966, in Rochester, NY, to Uta-Heide Hungerford and the late Dr. David Hungerford. During his formative years, he was raised in Nuremberg, Germany, and Oxford, England until his family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where his father practiced medicine. Kyle was a loving husband to Amy Hungerford, a devoted father to Sydney, Elijah, and Meredith Layne, and a cherished son-in-law to Sylvia Rosier. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Marc Hungerford (wife Margaret), along with their children Alexander and Lucas, and his brother, Dr. Lars Hungerford (wife Amanda), and their children, Harlow and Axel. Kyle was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Hungerford who passed from cancer in 2001.
After graduating from Calvert Hall High School, Kyle pursued higher education at Maryland Institute College of Art for one semester before transferring to Loyola University of Maryland, where he earned a degree in Finance graduating summa cum laude. He had a successful career, starting with Cedardale Homes, building custom homes before establishing his own company, Bellehaven Specialties, specializing in selling custom doors and windows. In 2017, he became a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Realty and joined his wife, Amy, as a team member and partner of the Hungerford Property Group.
Kyle was creative and enjoyed all aspects of the fine arts, including woodworking, drawing, painting, photography, and videography. He was a proud father who passed these gifts to his children as he watched them perform and excel in their unique take on the arts. He was an avid skier and golfer and an accomplished athlete competing in many running races and triathlons to challenge himself after each cancer recurrence. He was a member of F3 (Bellator) of Summerville and relied heavily on this group of men for accountability and encouragement. He inspired men in this group to continue to set goals and push toward them even when they encountered setbacks along the way.
Kyle was mostly known for his strength, determination, compassion, humility, and generosity. He worked alongside his family to give back to the community he called home and to support those who were also afflicted with cancer. In 2015, Kyle and Amy started #Road2Recovery, a non-profit to benefit those cancer patients needing financial assistance during treatment. In 2020, he participated in the Man of the Year Campaign, raising over $100k for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and received the Mission Integration Award. Finally, in 2022, he assisted his daughter, Meredith Layne, in raising funds for the Hope Lodge of Charleston, where he had benefited from this home away from home for cancer patients.
Kyle’s infectious positivity and ability to find joy in all circumstances will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew him. His foundation in his faith allowed him the ability to have a courageous outlook on life.
A ceremony to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 2 pm at Seacoast Church located at 301 E 5th North Street in Summerville, SC where he and his family attended church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Charleston Hope Lodge in memory of Kyle Hungerford.
