Deacon Samuel "Sandy" DeLoach, Sr. Obituary (1924

BURTON, SC - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Deacon Samuel "Sandy" DeLoach, Sr., 91 of Burton, SC (Beaufort) who entered into eternal rest on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016 at his residence. He is the beloved husband of Mrs. Lucinda Layton DeLoach, the father of Mr. Samuel DeLoach, Jr. (Carol), Mr. Arnold DeLoach, Mr. Franklin DeLoach, Mr. Earl Coaxum and the late Ms. Sandra DeLoach. What counts most in life is what we do for others." - Anonymous Samuel "Sandy" DeLoach, Sr., son of the late John D. and Ada Mulligan DeLoach was born December 2, 1924 in Hampton County, South Carolina. After completing his formal education, he was drafted in the US Army in 1942 and served his country honorably during the World War II era. While in the military he received numerous awards for his conduct, personal awards Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal as well as the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, The European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and upon discharge he had already attainted the rank of Tech 5. Samuel met and fell in love with the former Lucinda Layton and they were later united in holy matrimony. To this union four children were born. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and became a member of Burton New Church of Christ where he served faithfully for many years as a Deacon. Samuel was known as a man that wore many hats and was skillful in many trades. After retiring from civil service work he started DeLoach Landscaping Company and for over 27 years perfected the landscape on Hilton Head Island, SC. In his spare time, he sold watermelons to many throughout the community. If you found a watermelon at your door you knew Mr. Sandy had been there. In years prior he was a bus driver who transported people to and from work and impacted many people by doing so. Samuel's favorite hobby was hunting. He especially enjoyed hunting deer. In addition to hunting, he would also take time to go fishing. "Sandy" as he was affectionately known was a man quiet of speech, but who spoke volumes through the love and compassion that he directed towards others. He never met a stranger and always delivered a kind word to everyone he met. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, co-worker, friend, and Christian. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra DeLoach, his siblings: Wesley DeLoach, Sr., Junior DeLoach, Brooker T. DeLoach, Lacy DeLoach, Sophie H. Taylor, Alma D. Middleton, Rebecca DeLoach, and Julia D. Agnew. Samuel's passing leaves a vacancy in the hearts of those he loved and those who loved him. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his wife of over 65 years, Lucinda Layton DeLoach, his four children; Samuel DeLoach, Jr.(Carolyn), of Walterboro, SC, Arnold DeLoach of Burton, SC, Franklin DeLoach of Woodbridge, VA, and Earl Coaxum of Lady's Island, SC, his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his siblings; Deacon Curtis DeLoach (Albertha) and Mrs. RosaLee Goethe all of Burton, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
