Peter Garner

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Peter Garner, 70 of North Charleston, SC., who entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Mr. Garner is a US Navy Veteran and the father of Ms. Kristine Garner.

Peter was born March 18, 1949 to the late Deaconess Virginia Spry Garner and Deacon Charlie Garner, Sr.  He was the fourth child of eleven children. 

Peter attended Mary Ford Elementary School and Bonds-Wilson High School.  He was a member of the Bonds-Wilson Cobra Marching Band.  He later joined the United States Navy.

At an early age he became a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

He attended Trident Technical College and received an Associate Degree in Automotive.

He was employed by McAlloy Corporation of Charleston, SC.

After moving to Jackson, Tennessee in 1994, he joined Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and employed by UGN Automotive Industry in Jackson, Tennessee where he retired in 2011.

He was formerly married to the late Erline Schaffer of Charleston, SC, and the late Hazelle Longstreet of Jackson, TN.

Peter knew how to make you laugh and yet be a no-nonsense person.  One thing about him was that he was sincere in whatever he did.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Leticia Garner and two brothers James Lee Garner, Sr., MIA/BNR John Henry Garner, HM3, USN.

Peter leaves fond memory and everlasting Love to, his daughter, Kristine Garner of North Charleston, SC; seven grandsons, Tavio (Paris) Garner, of Charleston, SC, Da’Monte (Naairah) Harris, of North Carolina, Reynaldo Middleton, Ravonta Middleton, Kristin Middleton, Jamiroquan Middleton and Travis Gordon, Jr., all of Charleston, SC, eight great grandchildren, three brothers, USN Ret. Chief Charlie (Phyllis) Garner, of North Carolina,  Leroy (Thair) Garner, of Charleston, SC,  Pastor Timothy,Sr. (Martha) Garner, of  Texas, five sisters, Rev. Virginia (James,Sr.) Platts, Ruth Lewis, Jeanette (Harold) Canty, all of Charleston, SC,  Ethel (Gary) Hampton, of Jackson, Tennessee, Clara Bell (David) Aiken, of Greenville SC., sister-in-law, Doris Garner, aunts, Evelina Walker and Roenna Epps, uncle, Flander  Garner Baltimore, MD.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special neighbor, Roy Kelly.
