SUMMERVILLE, SC -  Roberta Thompson was born on June 13, 1925 to Mary and Ferris Boatwright in Alma, GA. She made her transition on November 27, 2017 at Cypress Place Senior Living Facility in Summerville, SC.  Roberta was preceded in death by her two brothers Otis and Dozier Boatwright.

Roberta’s family moved to Newark, NJ in 1931 where she was educated in the Newark School system.  Roberta was employed at Union Memorial Hospital; she also worked at Irvington General Hospital where she retired.  She became a member of Phillips Metropolitan Christian Episcopal Church shortly after moving to Newark, NJ and she was an active member of the Missionary Society until her health no longer allowed active participation.  She remained a member of the church after relocating to South Carolina.

Roberta was married to Benjamin Thompson in 1975 and was the mother of five children:  Ernest, Jacqueline, Robert, Jerome and Kenneth. She was a resident of Hillside, NJ for 41 years.

Roberta leaves to cherish her memory one son, Ernest Allen (Ann – Atlanta, GA); one sister in law, Etta Boatwright (Hillside, NJ) a goddaughter, Donna Ravenell (Arthur – Summerville, SC); six grandchildren; long- time friend, Edith Harris (Hillside, NJ); and a host of relatives and friends.
